Nirvana ster perf (Fleming x Vendela) - Our foundation mare

November 2006

We have just returned from the Dutch Keuring in Austin.  What a trip!! Our 'boys' were honored by being named the #1 and #3 NA/WPN foals in North America!! WOW and a very humble thanks to the keuring committee for this fabulous honor.

The 'Report from the Road' says this about Arlington and Arturo; "ARLINGTON (Idocus x Nirvana, ster by Fleming x Calypso) bred/owned by Larry and Kathy Childs, wowed the jury as well as the spectators with a very good use of forehand - neck, shoulder and foreleg. He is a long-lined, very modern dressage type, although a minor wish would be a little more length in his foreleg. With his 7.5 for conformation and an 8.4 for movement ARLINGTON will end in the top ten,…but he too was not at the top of the line.

ARTURO (Rousseau x Ojazzie MW, ster by Silvio II - Ahorn) had his owner/breeder the Child’s (and the jury!) truly on cloud nine. This breathtaking colt was the winner of this Texas Foal Class and Best Young Horse for this location AND takes the spotlight and the first place in the Top Ten from Andorra ISF. The black son of Rousseau and the mare OJazzie is a super type with a beautiful shoulder, supple in combination with a powerful use of hindquarters - sitting and projecting himself upward and forward as does an airplane. ARTURO was given an 8.5 on both his conformation and his movement."

We would also like to say a great big THANK YOU to our good friends and hard workers Debbie Davenport and Nancy Smith.  They went above and beyond to help us out at this year's Keuring! Thank You . . Thank You . . Thank You!!!

We finished out the month with more great news.  At the MASA breed show and the Mid-States Cosequin/USDF Breeder's Finals, we were honor that our 'boys' again performed very well.  Arturo was the 2005 Mid-States Cosequin/USDF Breeder's Colt/Gelding Champion, while Arlington was the 2005 Mid-States Cosequin/USDF Breeder's Colt/Gelding Reserve Champion!

September 2006

We had a successful 2006 KWPN-NA Keuring here in the Kansas City area September 20th.  The turnout was terrific and the weather was perfect! A big thank you goes to John and Nina Fricke for letting use their facility, High Point Farm in Paola! Your place is beautiful and was very well received.  Click here to see some photos of the Keuring.

We were very pleased that Belize was awarded a First Premium!

July 2006

In the July 2006 Connection, USDF summarized last years USDF Breeders' Championship Series.  We were again honored to be ranked as a 'Top Breeder' in 2005.  We (Crooked Post farm) were listed under Kathy's name and it shows that we were ranked 5th in the 'Top USDFBC Breeders for 2005' category!

May 2006

Nirvana had her foal May 24! The filly is a bay by Olympic Ferro.  Mother and daughter are doing great.  We look forward to seeing her grow up!

Jazz had her foal May 5 at Debbie's farm! The filly is a Chestnut with white markings by the Hanoverian Stallion - Fabriano.  Mother and daughter are doing great.  We look forward to seeing her grow up!

November 2005

We were very honored to be 'written up' in the No 8 - 2005 issue of Horse International - Sport & Breeding published by BCM, Eindoven The Netherlands! We are featured on the 'In de Strengen' insert in the center of the magazine.  The article is about the 2005 NAWPN Keuring Tour.

The article talks about Arturo and Arlington and says, "Arturo, Bred and owned by Larry and Kathy Childs, has the type and trot horse people dream of.  Smooth, long-lined, expressive, correct in body with a take-off like a jet and such an athletic ability that this young black colt refuses to leave your mind.  Arturo's stable mate Arlington (idocus x Nirvana ster by Flemmingh) is the number three in the top ten and again a very well trotting offspring of Nirvanna."

This made our year!

September 2005

We were recently notified that Jazz holds the honor of being the highest scoring non-Hanoverian mare ever to complete the AHS Mare Performance Test (MPT). Her score of 8.11 is the highest recorded for a non-Hanoverian mare in the last 10 years. This score also puts her in the top fifteen of all mares tested (639 mares) since 1995. O'Jazzie was also recently named to the prestigious US Hanoverian Jumper Program. You can find more information about the MPT and the Jumper Program at and in the Summer 2005 issue of The American Hanoverian magazine.

July 2005

October 2006

Belize competed in the Mid-America SportHorse Association Breed Show in Kansas City and she was a star! She was the Grand Champion of the Show!

Zabella also competed and was the winner of the KWPN class!

We wrapped up the 2006 show season by participating in the American Royal Kansas City.  Zabella showed in the Sport Horse in Hand classes.  We were so proud of her, she won her two year old class and then came back and was the Champion of the Show!

March 2007

We traveled to Austin, Texas to the KWPN annual meeting.  It was our second meeting and it was great to see everyone that we met in Lexington two years ago! We enjoy seeing everyone and to learn how we can continue to be better bredders of Dutch horses.  Thanks to KWPN for a well run and enjoyable meeting!

May 2007

We want to say Congratulations to Ruth Hill-Schorsch on the purchase of Zabella! We know that Ruth is excited about the potential and so are we!

Nirvana had a chestnut colt by Rousseau May 15! Mother and Caravaggio are doing great.  We look forward to seeing him grow up!

We are very pleased to be so honored!!

This month we traveled to Oklahoma to the KWPN-NA Keuring and the Mid-States Finals.  The jury was very complimentary of Caravaggio (Rousseau x Nirvana) and he received a First Premium rating and was named the Best Young Horse of the site! A bit tuckered, he managed to compete that afternoon in the Silver Creek Breed Show receiving a 74.6%.  On the second day, Caravaggio was a good sport - even though it was tough for him to trot in hand - he earned a 77.8%.  In the afternoon, he capped off the busy weekend with a very respectable 76.2% and 5th place in the Mid-States Finals amid a group of competitive older horses.

Congratulations to Silver Creek Farm for a fun and well run Keuring and Breed Show/Finals! We throughly enjoyed ourselves (in spite of the rain!).  Your place is beautiful!

September 2007

August 2007

Caravaggio had his first outing, to the MASA Summer Fest Breed Show, where he earned a score of 79% and a qualified him for a spot in the Great American/USDF Breeders' Championship Series.

The MASA Breed Show was well attended and a great success! Thanks to Nina and John Fricke for such a good job of organizing the event.

This month we learned that Belize was the U.S. Hunter Jumper Association Zone 7 Reserve Champion in the Hunter Breeding Division.  Thank you USHJA for the award!

Caravaggio (Gio) participated in a young horse handling clinic with Micheal Bragdell from Hilltop Farms. Gio was an absolute gentleman and received many compliments from Micheal and the spectators for his cooperative spirit and steady work ethic.

More awards for our offspring! This month we learned that Caravaggio was third place in the weanling colt/gelding division of the 2007 Dressage Sport Horse Breeding Horse of the Year awards program sponsored by the United States Dressage Federation, Inc.  Thank you USDF for the award!

January 2008

February 2008

Our breed show season got under way this month. We traveled to Nebraska for the Cornhusker Classic Dressage Show. Both Belize and Caravaggio showed well, with each qualifying for the The Great American Insurance Group/USDF Breeder's Series Championship Finals.  We have shows on the calendar for August and September.

Mother's Day came a day early for us this year! Nirvana presented us with a black bay Broere Jazz colt on Saturday May 10th! " Django" (the 'D' is silent) is named after the European Jazz musican, Django Rheinhardt. Django has all of the athletic qualities and classic beauty to be a star! It is a real treat to look out in the pasture and see the pair grazing.

Django will be for sale after the September keuring.

We bred Nirvana to Good Times for 2009.

May 2008

September 2008

In September 2008 Django was presented to the KWPN jury at the annual Kuering. The Kuering was held at Silver Creek Farms, Oklahoma. Django was a star! He received a 1st premium and was also named the 'Best of Site Dressage Prospect'!

When the results of this year's North American KWPN Kuering tour came in Django was ranked as the #4 foal/weanling:dressage in North America!
